Listening Prayers

IMG_4860When we think about praying, we generally think it means talking to God. Jesus teaches us to pray in the gospels telling us, “When you pray, say…”. Jesus tells us to talk to the Father and to ask for things like forgiveness, our daily bread, and temptation. Is there another side to prayer we are missing though? What role does listening play in praying?

IMG_4859Every year I ask Jesus for a word of the year. This year’s word: hope. Hope is a state of expectancy for things to come. We are expectant about God’s plans for our lives and we trust that he has good purposed for us. We are commanded to, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself” {Luke 10:27}. So how do we love our neighbors? It all starts with fruit.

I don’t know about you, but I am often overwhelmed by the unknowns in life. Where will I work? Will I make friends in this new town? But you don’t have to be going through a transition to know about worry. It can haunt us every day, if we let it. So today, let’s talk about how to overcome the worry in our lives and win back our joy.
